Why are grants important?
Grants help fund an artist and their desired project. This can range from residencies, painting, community outreach and etc. These grants help artists want to be more established and have the opportunity to make their curiosity a reality.
Where do I find grants?
The best places to start tending to be the area near a person lives. For example, Miami-Dade County is a large area that tends to have a lot of grants such as the Access Art grant. If the grants near your area doesn't pique your interest best to try the national grants or also known as government grants and then try online in places such as Creative Captial. But grant always needs a request for proposal or a RFP.
What is an RFP?
An RFP or request for proposal is a document created by the applicator that includes the name of the grant organization, budgeting, timeline, purpose, and sometimes a reference letter. For example, an art residency it is important to put the intended timeline, the whole budget, artist fee and the reason why the person would a person be interested to give you a grant.
What happens if the grant was approved or disapproved?
If the grant proposal was approved that congrats you have won, the jack pot to serve your main purpose. If disapproved there is other grants, organizations that would be interested in your grant proposal. Or if is best to relook the RFP to see if the expectation is unrealistic or has some budgeting errors.
